To ensure that programs are in place for the well-being, care, compensation and commemoration of serving and ex-service Defence Force members and their dependants; and promote Government and community awareness of the need for a secure and progressive Australia.
The Women's Auxiliary was formed in 1935, with the first meeting having been held at Sub Branch President, Mr Harry John's shop in Hastings Street. The first Women's Auxiliary President was Mrs Ettie Fielding. Monthly meetings were held at her home in Hilton Terrace.
Prior to each ANZAC Day and Armistice Day, the women would spend hours making crepe paper poppies for the wreaths and boutonnieres.
With the outbreak of World War 2 the Women's Auxiliary really came into its own. The ladies were kept busy knitting scarves, balaclavas, sock and mittens, baking cakes and biscuits, all to fill the comforts fund parcels that were sent to the men overseas.
Over the years, the RSL has graciously conferred the gold badge of life membership to eight of our members Mrs Nellie Law, Daisy Ross, her sister Merle Clarey, Jean Dunstan, Rebecca Ross, Lou Clarke, Marie Petty and Una Rigler.
We still assist the Sub Branch in many ways and over the years have made sizeable donations together with them endowing a unit at Carramar Aged Home, The Chelsea Home at Maryborough and the addition of a new "bush setting" for the RSL section of Tewantin Cemetery.
This year we celebrate our 75th Birthday and even today think back to those ten women who had the initiative and foresight to establish the Auxiliary. To those who took up the torcch and held it tight, to those who keep it held aloft, we congratulate and salute you. To those who come after us, we salute those who, in25 years time, will be celebrating the centenary of the Tewantin-Noosa RSL Women's Auxiliary.
At the end of last year we presented our annual awards to three local schools. These awards are given in the remembrance of previous long-time members of our Women's Auxiliary and consist of an award certificate together with a $100 voucher for each student to be used for school requirements. Donations were also given to various organistations throughout the year.
At our Christmas Luncheon every year our members bring along a Christmas gift for a child, which in turn is then donated to our local Salvation Army. As well as the usual selling of badges for ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day we also volunteer to help wrap all the gifts for the Children's Christmas party as well as the Christmas Carnival.
We also have outings for our members as well as guest speakers at some of our meetings.
