To ensure that programs are in place for the well-being, care, compensation and commemoration of serving and ex-service Defence Force members and their dependants; and promote Government and community awareness of the need for a secure and progressive Australia.
The formation of a new RSL District was discussed by Sunshine Coast RSL Sub Branches for a number of years but did not receive serious consideration until September 2000 when five Sub Branches (Kawana, Maleny, Mapleton, Nambour and Yandina) started serious moves towards the formation of the new district. A motion to form the Sunshine Coast & Regional District at the 2001 State Congress was carried and the promoters were thankful for the support obtained from Queensland RSL Sub Branches and the excellent advice and encouragement received from the State President and the State Secretary.
The Inaugural District Conference was held at the Nambour RSL Club on 28th October 2001 at which a Business Plan was adopted as the basis of our initial activities and future planning. October 2001 also saw Maroochydore Sub Branch join the District.
2004 saw SCRD grow in the number of Sub-branches, with the arrival of Woodford and Tewantin/Noosa, followed shortly in 2005 by Mudjimba. The arrival of Coolum/Peregian Sub Branch transferring from South East District and the re-activation of Eumundi Sub Branch in 2006 increased our numbers once again. In 2008, Caloundra Sub Branch transferred from South East District to the Sunshine Coast & Regional District making a total number of 12 Sub Branches in the District.
The District Office was generously hosted by Maroochydore Sub Branch from its inception until early 2010 when space constraints at Maroochydore necessitated a move to rented premises. The motto of the Sunshine Coast & Regional District is "Engaging the Community" and this is reflected within the District by our support for Veterans Welfare Services, community commemmorative events and youth programs. Our Sub Branches are very active in supporting schools and Cadet Units with bursaries and prizes and the Youth Development Program has assisted many of our local youngsters.

Battle for Australia Day is a day to remember those who protected Australia from attack in the darkest days of World War II. We remember those who fought in land, sea and air battles at home and throughout the south-west Pacific to defend Australia's shores from the threat of Japanese invasion. It is our opportunity to honour those who fought for our freedom and to remember those who did not return. A Commemoration Service will be held at Kawana Waters RSL Sub Branch Cenotaph Pacific Blvd Buddina. Wednesday 1st September, 2010 at 10.00am. For further details contact Kawana RSL Sub Branch on 5444 4889.
